Naver Labs announced that it signed a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Qualcomm Technology, a subsidiary of Qualcomm, regarding development of future technologies such as robotics and self-driving.
Naver Labs and Qualcomm Technology held a business agreement ceremony at Naver Labs Headquarters in Sungnam on the 19th with CEO Song Chang-hyun of Naver Labs and Senior Vice President and President Jim Cathey of Qualcomm APAC in attendance.
Their business agreement focuses on extending R&D of future technologies. Their goal is to combine Naver Labs’ abilities to develop innovative technologies such as AR (Augmented Reality) navigation and self-driving with Qualcomm’s knowhow and technologies that have been accumulated as Qualcomm has led global chip market.
Naver Labs has been developing innovative technologies such as AMBIDEX, a robot arm that won an international robot academy symposium, an automotive infotainment platform called AWAY, and self-driving cars.

Naver Labs has now opportunities to further its technical skills through its partnership with Qualcomm. Technologies that Naver Labs and Qualcomm develop will be introduced at CES 2019 that will be held in Las Vegas in January.
“Qualcomm has the world’s best technologies for manufacturing chips.” said CEO Song Chang-hyun of Naver Labs. “We expect that we will be able to develop technologies that no company has ever attempted before.”
“We are planning to support Naver Labs through our knowhow and solutions so that it can successfully develop its products and services.” said Senior Vice President Jim Cathey of Qualcomm.
