Pundi X is going to distribute 1,000 prototypes of its blockchain Smartphone ‘XPhone’ worldwide.
Pundi X introduced a prototype of XPhone at a press conference that was held at Seoul Grand Hilton Hotel and announced its future plans.
“We are going to start selling 1,000 prototypes of XPhone online for early adopters.” said Vice-President Peko Wan of Pundi X. “After an ecosystem for XPhone, we are going to launch XPhone on full-scale during the second quarter of 2019.”
Prototypes of XPhone will be produced through OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) method at Shenzhen where Pundi X’s R&D center is located.
Pundi X, which has its headquarters in Jakarta, adopts a slogan of ‘real-life payment through cryptocurrency’. It developed a POS reader ‘XPOS’ that can recognize credit cards, cash, simple payment services, and cryptocurrencies.

XPhone utilizes blockchain network and it can make phone calls without being limited to borders. At first glance, it is similar to mVOIP (mobile Voice Over Internet Protocol) service. However, because it acts as single node and shares data, it does not face problems even when its server is down.
“XPhone does not face problems such as YouTube being down due to problems with Google’s severs or not being able to make phone calls due to limitations with base stations of mobile carriers.” said Vice-President Peko Wan. “This is because even if a node has a problem, information can still be shared through other nodes.”
XPhone can be used as blockchain mode or normal Smartphone mode just by changing a screen to a next screen. Blockchain mode uses a new transmission protocol called FXTP and it allows one to make a phone call without knowing other’s numbers. Because each node has its own name, numbers and IDs are not required after registering the name of a node.
Vice-President Peko Wan showed her intention of wanting to work with South Korean Smartphone manufacturers in the future. “One thing that I want to emphasize is our blockchain software within XPhone rather than XPhone itself.” said Vice-President Peko Wan. “We want to work with innovative South Korean manufacturers that are looking for next-generation technologies to expand blockchain ecosystem.”
