KakaoPay (President Ryu Young-joon) has started aggressive promotions to increase number of partnering stores that offer ‘KakaoPay store payment’ service, which was introduced in May. KakaoPay store payment is a service that scans QR codes or barcodes created from KakaoTalk to pay for products. It is planning to use all of its capabilities to grab upper hands in offline payment markets followed by online payment markets.

Coffee Bean, which started KakaoPay store payment service on the 20th, is going to hold a 1+1 promotion until the 9th of September that gives free ice coffee whenever a person orders an ice coffee through KakaoPay. It is also going to hold a promotion from the 10th until the 23rd of September that presents a cashbook whenever a person pays for more than $8.99 (10,000 KRW) through KakaoPay. 8Seconds, which is a SPA brand, and dine-out brands Ashley and Nature Kitchen will start KakaoPay store payment service on the 21st and 23rd of September respectively. All three brands are planning on promotional events during the month of September.
Young Poong Book Store will start the service on the 30th and it is planning to hold a promotion for about a month starting from the 12th of September. Lotte Mart is holding a promotion from the 3rd until the 12th of September that gives $2.70 (3,000 KRW) in discount whenever a person spends more than $44.94 (50,000 KRW) through ‘KakaoPay store payment’.
