Number of Bitcoin ATMs that are installed in Australia has doubled in just half of a year.
Australian media called NullTX reported that 24 Bitcoin ATMs were installed additionally throughout Australia within 6 months. On average, number of Bitcoin ATMs increased by 4 units monthly within this period. As a result, number of Bitcoin ATMs increased from 24 units to 48 units.
Currency from a particular country can be converted into Bitcoin through a Bitcoin ATM.
This project is extensively promoted by Australia’s Digital Transformation Agency (DTA), which was established in 2015 and is also looking to apply blockchain technology to public payments.
DTA’s goal is to install 500 Bitcoin ATMs throughout Australia. These Bitcoin ATMs are co-developed by FinTech companies.

Previously, Australian authorities decided not to levy value added taxes on payments made by Bitcoins in last July to avoid double taxation that can arise from Bitcoin ATMs.
Offline trades of cryptocurrencies are becoming active in Australia. Newspaper stands that sold Bitcoin and Ethereum had drawn attention in last March. Australian cryptocurrency trading site called ‘Bitcoin.com.au’ made partnerships with 1,200 newspaper stands. People who are not familiar with digital environment can also easily purchase and sell cryptocurrencies through newspaper stands.
Number of Bitcoin ATMs surpassed 3,000 units globally. 1,795 Bitcoin ATMs are installed in the U.S. followed by Canada (454), England (127), Austria (96), Czech (46), and Spain (39). Based on a continent, North America has the most ATMs by having 76.82% of them followed by Europe (20.89%). Asia only has 1.93% of ATMs. Out of Asian countries, Japan has the most Bitcoin ATMs with 11 units.
