LSDTech threw its hat into global UHD broadcasting equipment market. It is planning to target UHD markets that combine broadcasting and internet through SSD (Solid State Drive) servers that can stream videos at ultra-high speed.
LSDTech participated in ‘NAB Show 2018’, which was held in Las Vegas, for the first time and introduced 100Gbps broadcasting SSD server.
LSDTech targeted American telecommunication businesses such as AT&T and Verizon at NAB Show 2018 and it is also looking to supply its technologies to Netflix and Amazon as well. “Besides telecommunication businesses, we are also looking into working with OTT (Over The Top) businesses that have internet-based video streaming systems.” said CEO Lee Ki-taek of LSDTech. “We are going to present technologies that can resolve any concerns for telecommunication and broadcasting businesses.”
LSDTech is also going to enhance its partnership with Chelsio that produces LAN cards and chips and has distribution network all over the world. LSDTech’s plan is to utilize its partnership with Chelsio as a bridgehead in going after global markets.
This movement by LSDTech is its strategic choice to meet changes in paradigms of broadcasting. Markets that were monopolized by few broadcasting equipment manufacturers have transformed themselves according to UHD generation. It has become possible for computing equipment manufacturers such as LSDTech to participate in broadcasting equipment markets as process of conversion between internet and broadcasting has become faster and as there are more demands for transferring large images and videos.

LSDTech is planning to satisfy demands from markets through its technical skills. Although it will have limited capabilities with current broadcasting equipment, its high-performance equipment such as SSD server is enough for LSDTech to accommodate demands from markets.
“Single 100Gbps SSD server can send UHD TV image to 3,500 people without any discontinuation.” said CEO Lee. “Enormous amount of facility and equipment investment is needed to secure such performance with past equipment.” Considering that past equipment such as HDD server is 2Gbps, single 100Gbps SSD server can replace 50 HDD servers theoretically.
Fact that OTT businesses such as Google, Amazon, and Netflix have emerged as new players within broadcasting markets is an opportunity for LSDTech. Fast transfer speed is the greatest competitive edge when large amount of images are sent through Cloud data center. CEO Lee emphasized that its SSD server can set up data centers, increase transfer speed, and reduce TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).
LSDTech is also pushing to produce UHD contents as well. It is going to set up an environment that can quickly change contents into 3D images and VR (Virtual Reality) through supercomputers that use high-performance SSD servers. In order to pursue this business, it attracted $18.8 million (20 billion KRW) of investment from investors and private equity funds in South Korea. “We will be able to secure competitive edge by reducing costs and time to produce UHD contents.” said CEO Lee.
