G’Audio Lab (CEO Oh Hyeon-oh) is targeting foreign VR (Virtual Reality) markets with its VR audio end-to-end solutions.
G’Audio Lab, which is a VR audio solution company established in May of 2015, has developed a solution that allows one to enjoy 3D sound from VR contents through a normal earphone.
This solution calculates location of sound in real-time whenever users turn their heads or move in virtual space and match locations of images and sound sources. This allows users to listen carefully to VR contents.
G’Audio Lab recently introduced a commercialized version of its VR audio end-to-end solution at a VR exposition called ‘VRLA’ in Los Angeles and drew attentions from representatives of Disney and Hollywood.
G’Audio Lab’s solution is composed of 3D audio plug-in for DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), rendering SDK (Software Development Kit) that plays 3D audio plug-in, and a reference player that allows one to experience sound effects. It supports 3D audio functions in all stages from manufacturing of VR contents to playing VR contents. It utilizes variety of audio formats such as stereo, mono, channel, and ambisonic and provides accurate sense of location and high audio quality.
G’Audio Lab established a branch in Los Angeles in last November and is discussing with global content manufacturers such as Hollywood about working together.
“Our goal is to provide the best sound experience through innovative audio technologies.” said CEO Oh Hyeon-oh of G’Audio Lab. “We are going to go after Hollywood’s content manufacturers while establishing standards for VR audio technologies.”
G’Audio Lab attracted $4.43 million (5 billion KRW) of investments from Korea Investment Partners Co., Ltd., LB Investment, and SoftBank Ventures last year. Prior to attracting these investments, it received a Minister Prize at’ VR&AR Challenge 2016’ that was held by Ministry of Science, ICP and Future Planning.
G’Audio Lab was established based on its technical skills that were recognized by an international standardization meeting that took place in Barcelona in 2014. These skills beat out other global companies such as Qualcomm, Fraunhofer, France Telecom, and Huawei and were selected as next-generation international audio standards that are called ‘MPEG-H 3D Audio’.
