Next-generation graphic card DRAM that reduces electricity consumption while increases performance has been developed. It is predicted that this DRAM will be used for new graphic card that will be released next year and increase graphic processing speed of PCs and abilities of performance of games.
SK Hynix announced on the 23rd that it has developed graphic card DRAM called GDDR6 (Graphics DDR6) which has the world’s fastest speed. This product is 20-nano-level 8Gb GDDR6 and implements industries’ best data processing speed of 16Gbps (Gb/sec) per pint. It can process up to 768 GB of graphic data per second by utilizing 384 information I/Os (Input/Output) that are mostly chosen for best graphic cards.
SK Hynix is planning to mass-produce this product in next year when next-generation’s best graphic card that uses graphic DRAM with high performance is set to be released.

Graphic DRAM is a memory that is specialized for quickly processing videos and graphic after receiving commands from graphic cards of PC, workstation, video player, and game station with high performance. GDDR6 is a next-generation graphic DRAM that is standardized by JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council). It is twice faster than GDDR5 and its operating voltage is also lower by more than 10%.
It is expected that GDDR6 will quickly replace GDDR5 and GDDR5X, which are major products in current markets, starting from next year.
“We are able to respond to markets for graphic memories with high quality and high performance by developing GDDR6 that has the world’s fastest speed.” said Department Head (Executive Director) Oh Jong-hoon of SK Hynix DRAM Design Headquarters. “It will contribute in improving performance of products by providing a solution that is optimized for graphic cards with high performance.”
It is predicted that GDDR6 will become a necessary memory solution for growth of next-generation industries such as AI (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality), self-driving cars, and displays with high-quality.
