It will be possible to transfer a 1GB movie in just 3 seconds starting from next year at the earliest. Because it will be possible to transfer enormous amount of data in short period of time, it is predicted that usage rates of multimedia of Smart devices in medical fields, daily lives, and cultures will increase in the future.
ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) made an announcement on the 18th that a research team led by Professor Lee Mun-shik of IoT Movement Modem Laboratory along with Corp developed an ultra-fast NFC technology called Zing that can rapidly send and receive large amount of contents within 10cm of distance without internet connection.
Zing’s transmission rate of data is 3.5Gbps and it is 8,254 times faster than current non-contact NFC (Near Field Communication). It uses 60GHz frequency, which is non-licensed bandwidth, and is implemented as broadband communication.
Because transmission rate of current NFC is only between 212 and 424Kbps, it is only limited to mobile cards and transportation cards.
It is easy to commercialize Zing technology because it uses low-power technology (100mW). Because it also sends material directly to storage media such as USB through wireless power transfer, possibility of hacking is very slim.

Because Zing technology uses offline service devices (kiosk) at public places such as subway stations and airports, it will be possible to send paid contents with large data to cellphones and others. Although external devices are needed still, it will be installed within Smartphones in the future.
Zing technology is set to be established as international standards in January of next year after being selected as a candidate for international standard of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). Because it replaces current NFC technology, it is expected that markets for IoT and platforms that are based on contents with large data are going to grow rapidly.
Corp is planning to develop chips and modules that can be utilized in variety of IoT fields in the future and is planning to release such products in 2018 after going through steps of commercialization in 2017.
Application of Zing technology in medical field is also being materialized. ETRI is planning to develop medical devices that are equipped with Good Doctors and Zing technologies.
“With Zing technology, it is now possible to receive and send large amount of data safely and rapidly without going through internet or wired connection.” said Department Head Jung Hyeon-kyu of ETRI 5G Giga Communication Research Headquarters. “We are going to make IoT environment more affluent through direct and fast communication services between devices.”
