KT is going to establish more than 90% of telecommunication and broadcasting network for 2018 Winter Olympics by end of this year so that it can implement world’s first 5G mobile telecommunication during 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
KT, which is the leading telecommunication for 2018 Winter Olympics, made such announcement during a meeting for task forces for Pyeongchang ICT Winter Olympics that was held under Ministry of Science, ICP and Future Planning (MSIP) on the 15th.
KT is going to maximize 3 major functions of 5G such as ultra-fast speed, ultra-low latency, and ultra-connection by utilizing broadcasting and telecommunication network and is planning to introduce new services such as 360° VR, Omni-View, and others as well as holograms.

At this meeting that was held under Minister Choi Jae-yoo of MSIP, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), Pyeongchang Olympics organization committee, Gangwon-do, related organizations and experts in each field were in attendance. To implement AI, which has high national interest as a new technology, and effective 2018 Winter Olympics through VR, participants have decided to set up a cooperative system between government organizations.
MOLIT introduced its plan to provide VR, safety support, road guidance and others during 2018 Winter Olympics by establishing geography and landmarks such as airports, subways and others as 3D electronic maps.
MCST is planning to operate a South Korean Culture Experience Center that will allow visitors to experience K-pop hologram concerts and others by using ICT (Information Communication Technology) and a VR Experience Center of winter sports such as ski-jump and others.
