SK Telecom is planning to enter Indonesia’s IoT market. SK Telecom exchanged a MOU with Indonesia’s state-run telecommunication business called Telkom on the 12th regarding strategic cooperation on IoT-based businesses and newly growing businesses.
These two businesses are planning to look for newly growing businesses such as Smart City, IoT convergence service and others by utilizing SK Telecom’s IoT platform called ‘ThingPlug’ and LPWA-based (Low Power Wide Area) IoT network.
To accomplish this goal, they are currently discussing about establishing a joint-corporation in Jakarta within two years. They are also starting to develop Cloud-based TV service for Telkom’s members by using a media solution called ‘Cloud Streaming’ that is owned by SK Telecom’s subsidiary called ENTRIX.

SK Telecom’s lifeware device called ‘UO Brand’ will also be launched in Indonesia. Telkom’s distributor called PINS will be in charge of selling lifeware devices such as UO Smart Beam Laser, UO Smart Beam 2, UO Linkage and others in Indonesia.
“We’ve prepared opportunities with Telkom where we both can benefit from variety of businesses such as IoT convergence service, Smart City, media and others.” said Director Lee Eung-sang of SK Telecom’s Global Business Sector. “We are going to focus on expanding our business throughout South-East Asia region including Indonesia through continuous cooperation with Telkom.”
