LG Electronics is going to introduce ‘G5’ at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2016 that will be held next month. Its release date, which will be in March, overlaps with release date of Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S7.
LG Electronics made an announcement on the 13th that it will hold an Unpack Event for G5 in Barcelona on the 21st of February at 2 P.M (Spain time). It already sent an invitation to be the target of media. 21st is the day before the opening day of MWC 2016.
On its invitation with a background of small and green gift box, there is a saying ‘Play begins’. This saying hints that fun experience will begin as soon as this gift box is opened.

Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are going to announce their products at 6 P.M. and 2 P.M. respectively.
As released dates of these two products overlap, industries are focusing on their functions and performance.
Samsung Electronics have used its Exynos and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 for Galaxy S7. There is a high possibility that LG Electronics will use an application processor (AP) that has almost similar performance as Snapdragon 820. This indicates that a competition between two businesses will depend on functions, design, and user experience (UX).

People believed that it was impossible to replace batteries for Smartphones with metal cases due to its material and design. However LG Electronics designed it so that part of bottom half of Smartphone’s main body can be detached. Until now, parts of Smartphones with metal cases could not be replaced because its edges and rears were made as integrated metal cases to implement classy and unified feelings. Even though it can express elegant look with its thin thickness, weakness of Smartphones with metal cases was that their batteries could not be replaced.
It is heard that LG Electronics designed a detachable solution as a solution that will solve a problem regarding batteries while still applying strengths of metal design. Multiple people related to this industry said that LG Electronics designed its G5 so that its batteries can be replaced while using metal cases.
LG Electronics has applied rear dual camera on G5. Although it only used dual camera in the front of V10 that was released earlier, it is using rear dual camera to differentiate performance of cameras. LG Innotec is planning to supply dual camera modules to LG Electronics.
There is a high chance that S7 will have 5.2-inch screen and use Super AMOLED Display. It will also be able to support dustproof and waterproof functions that are equal to IP67 level. “Recently specifications have been standardized so much so that it is meaningless to compete for better specifications.” said a person related to this industry. “Businesses need to differentiate their Smartphones with new functions and UX that can appeal to consumers’ sensitivities.
G5 and Galaxy S7 are ambitious work of two businesses to improve performance of their mobile businesses. Both businesses have drawn cards that will reverse performance of their mobile businesses during 1st quarter since both sales and operating profit for both businesses last year were poor. Samsung Electronics’ sales in Smartphones such as Galaxy Note 5 and others had slowed down last year due to Chinese products. According to interim value, Samsung Electronics’ 4th quarter operating profit for IT and Mobile (IM) Business Department will be about $1.74 billion (2.1 trillion KRW) which will be 15% decrease compared to previous quarter.
LG Electronics’ MC Business Headquarters also recorded loss of $64.4 million (77.6 billion KRW) in 3rd quarter due to lack of sales of G4 that was released in April of 2015. Although its profit is improving little bit due to sales of V10 during 4th quarter, it is still going through difficulties. Industries are focusing on whether or not LG Electronics can make surplus in 1st quarter with G5 release.
