Samsung Electronics is joining hands with Audi and is supplying semiconductors for Audi vehicles.

According To Samsung on the 24th, Samsung Electronics attended ‘Audi PSCP (Progressive SemiConductor Program)’ that was held at Audi Headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany on the 23rd (German Time).

PSCP is an event that was prepared for Audi to apply most advanced semiconductor technologies to its vehicles.

Samsung Electronics was the first memory semiconductor company ever to participate in PSCP. As it is an even that starts off full-pledge cooperation with Audi, President Kim Ki Nam of Samsung Electronics’ Semiconductor Department himself attended this event.

These two businesses made strategic partnership in developing semiconductors for vehicles. At this event, President Kim agreed with Audi’s Vice-President Ricky Hudi, who is in charge of Electronics Equipment Development, in sharing technologies and ideas that will lead innovation in car industry.

Samsung Electronics is supplying its advanced memory products to Audi. It is going to apply 20-nano LPDDR4 from D-RAM and 10-nano eMMC (NAND + controller, mobile internal memory) 5.1 product from NAND to Audi vehicles.

Samsung Electronics is the only one in the world that can produce 20-nano D-RAM. If fine-processing technologies become enhanced, its low-power characteristic increases compared to Samsung Electronics’ competitors’ products such as 25-nano and others. It is the same thing for 10-nano eMMC products as well.

According to global market research company IHS, Samsung Electronics was able to achieve 45.2% in global market share in 2nd quarter with its 20-nano D-RAM. This is its highest value ever, and it seems that it will record around 45% in eMMC markets and dominate its competitors that only have 10%.

“It is very meaningful to supply industry’s best memory technologies to respond to car industries’ demands that are rapidly growing.” said President Kim. “Based on our partnership with Audi, we are going to provide variety of benefits and advanced user experience to global automobile markets.”

“By using Samsung’s high-speed memory products through our strategic partnership with Samsung, we are going to provide best user experience to our customers.” said Vice-President Hudi.
