A button was added at the bottom of text input in mobile messenger KakaoTalk’s chatroom on the 30th, and it is Sharp Search. If one types a word that he or she wants to find while pressing # button, related keyword appears on the screen as a card and Malpoongsun-type. More detailed results appear if the screen is swiped to the right.

Daum Kakao released ‘KakaoTalk Sharp Search’ and ‘Kakao Search’ services, and these are search services that target mobiles. KakaoTalk Sharp Search enables users to search right away while in a chatroom and to share with friends. From a user’s perspective, this erases any inconvenience of moving to different application and one can immediately share search result in a chatroom using ’Share With Friends’ button.

Team Leader Park Chang Hee of Daum Kakao’s KakaoTalk announced that Daum Kakao materialized Sharp Search at its most optimized level of sharing, considering the fact that Sharp Search can be used as a material for new topic of conversation or continuation of conversation.

Instead of scrolling up and down to look at the search result, it implemented a method of short card form where one can simply swipe side to side and this is the most optimized situation for mobiles.

According to Kakao, mobile users usually look for people that are mentioned frequently, confirmation of contents, or locations for many search words that usually want short and precise answers. It is a way of searching things like movies, famous people, or popular restaurants for meetings.

While Sharp Search works through KakaoTalk, Kakao Search was applied on KakaoTalk Sharp Search, Kakao Channel, Daum mobile application and websites. Kakao Search also targeted mobiles. It greatly increased contents that can be confirmed just by scrolling screens up and down. It minimized movements to new pages so that one can easily spend information within integrated search results. It also increased foreign information so that one can obtain lots of information of questions that are low in search frequency. Videos that are high in consumption can be played immediately on applications and websites.

Team Leader Lee Sang Ho of Daum Kakao’s Search Department analyzed the whole process by saying that it has focused on Kakao Search so that it can easily and rapidly find information according to user’s mobile search pattern and frequency, and this is all due to synergy that is created by Daum Kakao Merger.

Daum Kakao announced its hope of connecting searches, shopping, contents, and business transactions hereafter.

Team Leader Park Chang Hee announced his hope by saying that it will develop KakaoTalk to be not just a simple messenger, but a mobile platform that connects users through variety of methods such as games, contents, and commerce.

As Daum Kakao releases new search service, its competition with Naver’s mobile search will be regularized. Naver released its interest-based recommendation ’Tag Search’ that targets mobiles. It combined search and previous strength of SNS. When Facebook and KakaoTalk are methods of sharing information contents or news between people, Tag Search can obtain information about interest without separate human network. It is a technology that shows information that is created within a group that shares common interests. If an user participates by liking recommended contents, related search results are provided to each person at the most optimized level. It first recommends search results according to ages and sex as a trial version. While Daum Kakao is a strategy that makes people stay within applications, Naver makes pople stay within websites that are Naver’s previous strength. Although both companies target mobiles, they both chose different paths towards mobiles.
