Its Yearly Output Is The Size Of 5000 Soccer Fields
Samsung SDI is planning to establish a polarizing film factory for large-sized TVs in China. It can produce 20~30 million amount of 48-inch LCD TVs per year, which will be possible to respond to Chinese markets’ customers’ demands in real time.
Samsung SDI announced that memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the establishment of polarizing film factory was exchanged at the Pullman Hotel in Jiangsu on the 25th while President Cho Nam Sung and Party Secretary Li Xiao Min of Wuxi were on attendance.
Polarizing film, which are attached at the both sides of LCD panel, displays a color and adjusts pixel’s brightness by letting or blocing a light from back light unit. It’s an important material for the production of various display products such as LCD TV, notebook, tablet PC, Smartphone, and etc.
By investing 182million dollars, Samsung is building polarizing film factory in Wuxi industrial site area that has a production scale of 30~40 million m2 per year. By 48-inch TV standard, it can produce 20~30 million amount of LCD TVs and its size is equal to 5000 soccer fields of international standard.
Samsung SDI is currently operating 3 product lines at full scale for polarizing film in Cheongju business site. After completion of factory in China and drastic increase of output, its global competitiveness will be much stronger based on Chinese demands in real time.
China is currently on a sudden rise as the main market for polarizing film for large-sized TVs. By growing more than 16% per year, it is projected that it will increase its size to 145 million m2 by 2020. World’s polarizing film market’s size is growing 6% per year, its size will be 425 million m2 from 312 million m2 last year.
Based on growth of LCD panels for 40-inch large-sized TVs, Samsung SDI is planning to have a very wide product line to apply to 8th generation which is the biggest size in display panels. Polarizing films that get mass-produced at the Wuxi factory are planning to be supplied to global display businesses that are located in nearby Suzhou.
“We were able to secure a production base for polarizing film for large-sized TVs in China that began to rise as the main market for display. We will promote display materials as a driving force in the next-generation hereafter.” President Cho Nam Sung talked about Samsung SDI’s production base in China.
