Mobile charger has been released that can authorize an user to charge electric car through a Smartphone.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) doesn’t have to be installed onto an electrical outlet. This protects an user to use a building’s electricity without permission, and an user can check electric car’s electricity use through a Smartphone.

Kodi-S (Representative Park Chan Jong) announced on the 17th that it will finish developing its 3.3 kW mobile charger (product name MTC) that can be linked with a Smartphone and release it next month. It minimized Smart Meter and slow charging functions, which are needed for services and charging for electricity, and put them into the charger. Although it takes about 7 hours to charge a normal electric car (Battery capacity 24 kWh), its best advantage is that one can simply charge a car whenever and wherever.

Comprised of charge and discharge functions, watt hour meter, and communication equipment, one can charge a car with a normal 220v outlet and he or she has to make a payment based on electricity use. After connecting a charge cable with an outlet, it can be used after user authorization through a Smartphone. Information about wattage uses for charging a car gets transferred to central server by using Wi-Fi or 3G, and one gets charged for his or her use of electricity.

Even when a user is using someone else’s building or facilities’ electricity, that user has to pay for that charge. Due to this advantage, users don’t have to look for facilities with chargers, and it protects unauthorized use of electricity.

With already a plan set up to release this charger in South Korea, it is also discussing a plan with China’s much influenced car enterprise to provide this charger as a bundle when electric cars are released. It can be released in China as early as end of this year.

Kodi’s will complete KS certification by end of this month and it is planning to set its price around 800 dollars, which is about 30% of a normal slow charger (7 kW). It is also cooperating with payment businesses for a stable charging plan.

“Charging an electric car will be very easy through using a Smartphone, and this will definitely benefit those who were hesitant to buy an electric car due to lack of charging infrastructure. We are in a discussion about its supply with China’s much influenced car enterprises and domestic and foreign charging infrastructure service enterprises.” Representative Park Chan Jong said about its advantages and Kodi-S’ discussion with other enterprises.
