The most well know business models for 5G era are Big Data and Internet of Things (IoT).

Chairman Hwang also said, “We cannot realize 5G by ourselves and therefore we must cooperate together with all the equipment companies, software manufacturers, and everyone we can think of. It is the open minded to cooperate for ‘open innovation’ that is needed for everyone.”

Chairman Hwang sees 5G will be a definite opportunity for carriers, at the same time they must be aware and cautioned about it. Once the 5G becomes commercialized, not just the speed but the traffic will be fast and big and thus comes the ‘super connected’ situation. However the carriers yet have never had the experience of synergizing with other technologies such as IoT.

He also mentioned that he emphasized on standardization as the director of GSMA for past one year. As a result, Telefonica, which has top 3 most members around the world, NTT DoMoCo, and China Mobile has joined the movement. He added that KT will try their best to be in the leading position of the standardization.
