The government finalized 28 projects to be promoted next year, such as 12 projects of strategic key material development and 16 projects of demand-linked technology development. For the materials and parts R&D next year, the government has set out a policy to focus on substantial outcome creation including sales and job creation rather than simply to promote research activities.

Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (Keit) announced on the 18th that it had held a kickoff meeting of the project planning team for materials and parts technology development projects on the 17th inside The-K Hotel Seoul and confirmed the 28 projects as of the above.

For the strategic key material development, ‘metal (solidified hydrogen materials for transport airplanes and high-efficiency superconducting long-length wire manufacturing technologies),’ ‘ceramics (ceramic carbon materials for semiconductor and display components, high-output ceramic fuel cell and ceramic membrane materials),’ ‘chemical (bendable adhesive materials for flexible display, quantum dot sheet materials and transparent electrode key technologies)’ and ‘convergence materials (nano-structured substrate materials for OLED lighting efficiency improvement, sensor to detect fine dust in air, biological tissue binding materials with self-healing function and materials for artificial organs)’ were selected as the projects for planning.

As for the demand-linked technology development, ‘automotive and shipbuilding (electro-deposition sensor components, electric module components, low-temperature and high expansion foam system for ships and BOP (blow-out-preventer) design technologies),’ ‘machinery and robot (optical sensor-based smart valve, shock dampening construction machinery sheet and driving module built in with motor controller),’ ‘electrical and electronics (smart AVPU (accelerated video processing unit) SoC and software for high-speed embedded vision, LED-based high color rendering light source module, camera communication package module for wearable devices and precision power and facility diagnosis modules)’ and ‘convergence components (parts and platform for influenza field diagnosis, respirator-based healthcare components, ultra high resolution image processing module for security devices and healthcare components using bio signals)’ projects were selected.

“The budget for next year will be cut down slightly and the number of new projects will also decrease,” said Director Kim Sang-tae of Keit Materials & Components Industry Evaluation Department. “We will focus on projects with which job creation and sales expansion are possible through market-centered R&D.”
