<300kW level Renewable Energy System Integration Platform developed by KIER>

A technology to effectively verify new and renewable energy system and smart grid technologies has been developed.

A research team led by Principal Researcher Song Yu-jin at the Energy ICT Laboratory of Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) announced on the 17th that it had succeeded in developing RESIP (Renewable Energy System Integration Platform), a platform for integrated new and renewable energy system design, management and experimentation.

This system can minimize the problems concerning interoperability and uncertainty that occur when new and renewable energy system is integrated with the existing power facilities.

This platform is used to identify and examine errors that can be caused by the integration of energy and power generation equipments. In particular, it enables advanced verification of energy demand control technologies, such as of smart grid, for which it has been difficult to build a large-scale experiment environment because of the cost-related issues. In other words, this system can produce the same result without the establishment of a separate experiment environment.

For accurate experiment, the research team has already developed meteorological data production software for 40 cities across the country as well as power consumption pattern models by building type and season.

“This system will be applied to technological development and construction of energy-independent eco-friendly energy towns in the future as it enables power demand prediction by region and season,” explained Principal Researcher Song Yu-jin. “We will open this platform to small companies, and thus will provide the companies with lifecycle support from product design to commercialization for the new smart grid and renewable energy technologies.”
